Estimator - Steel Fabrication

We are currently seeking a Project Estimator for our Brantford, Ontario office.  The successful applicant will work with experienced personnel in sales, estimating, project management, industrial engineering, fitters and welders.

You will report to the Proposals Manager and have involvement in the cost estimates of large scale steel fabrication projects, as well as some smaller projects. You will also assist in the tender process, liaise with customers and project managers and provide administrative support for the team.

Responsibilities

Review and prepare material cost & fabrication estimates for varying projects.
Review specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Check estimates for accuracy and review bid submittal documents and notes.
Prepare final quote submittals and documents.
Assist with RFQ scheduling and implementing new procedures.
Use CAD programs for flat development of simple and complex components and part nests for efficient use of materials.
Work closely with engineering and purchasing departments.
Provide technical support to the Sales department.

Requirements

Combinations of technical training and/or relevant steel fabrication related experience is required.

The ability to proficiently read technical drawings is required.
Educational requirements: Previous hands-on experience with steel fabricating, estimating, detail drawing or a college or university degree in mechanical engineering or similar, or business degree, or equivalent combinations of technical training.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Excel is required.
You should be detail oriented with strong analytical, math and computer skills.
Good memory and the ability to relate current requirements to previous experience and pricing knowledge.
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
The ability to work extra hours (evenings/weekends as required by workload) is considered a plus, but not a requirement.
